Fresh water makes up only 3% of the water on earth. It is precious and sacred, and deserves to be treated with the greatest care and respect. One of many initiatives to so is the Great Lakes Commons Charter. One fifth of all the world's fresh water is in the Great Lakes.
Water conservation is an important part of living lightly on the land. In a mobile home, it's possible to hook up with public water supplies, but much of the time, I'll have only the water I can carry in my holding tanks, so I need to use it wisely. I can shower at places I visit, bathe in hot springs and lakes, but mostly I'll take very short showers at home. Growing up in the tropics, with rainy and dry seasons, I learned to wash my hair with three cups of water, and sponge bathe when necessary.
Grey water systems recycle water that's been used once, for bathing or washing clothing, usually to water plants. I will only have a small greenhouse to water, but will use only non-toxic soaps, so that I can contribute my used water in those places where it's legal to do so.
I grew up on rainwater collected from our roof, and plan to explore ways to collect as much as I can with the Vehicle. Peruvian engineers have invented a water generating billboard that uses condensers to pull moisture from the air, and supplies a small desert community with drinking water. They are not yet selling the technology, but I'd love to have something like that on the side of my vehicle.
