Walls
I made the decision early on to go with all metal walls, inside and out, and metal ceiling and subfloor, in order to avoid the problems of plywood and other wood products, but in order to have a livable space, I also wanted to cover most of those surfaces. I looked into a variety of options, but ended up voting for two forms of wool felt. Filzfelt makes beautiful wool felt that is free of processing chemicals, and is available in many gorgeous colors, thicknesses and includes laser-cut hangings and screens. But it's also very expensive. I chose to limit my Filzfelt to their acoustic paneling, Akustika, which will go on the ceiling to absorb sound.
A lot of wall space will be covered with built-in shelving, cabinets and counters,so the square footage of shiny wall will be a lot less than it is right now. For my bedroom, I chose a less expensive chemical free wool felt, which I will attach with velcro so it can be removed for cleaning. I'm starting out with white felt, and may end up dyeing or painting it later on. I will use a brown-grey undyed eco-felt to cover the side of counters and window seat formed by my external access storage units. I haven't figured out exactly how I'll hang art yet.
