Lighting and Darkness

How will I both light my space and provide darkness for sleep, and stick to my goals of non-toxicity and energy efficiency?

Picture
In 2002, Alfredo Moser invented an ingenious and inexpensive way to light the homes of the poor: a solar light made from recycled plastic pop bottles and water, which refracts the light and distributes it into the space below. I wonder if gallon bottles would give more light.  This invention pleases me on so many levels.

LED Lighting

.I will be using LED cove lighting long the base of my cabinets, with bedside, desk and reading lamps. all using LED bulbs. My bedside and cove lighting will be 12 volt DC powered. I'll also have abundant daylight from my Solatubes, polished aluminum tubes that gather and reflect sunlight through the roof, and from three large and six small windows.
